AI cover research test project
A downloadable project for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
This is just a small test project for demonstrating a fully dynamic cover finding / position evaluation system for combat games.
Loosely based on this paper about Killzone's dynamic combat tactics.
The position evaluation uses precomputed information to avoid having to do many raycasts. This can be used to get to cover as in the example, but it can also be useful in planning attacks, or finding the best place to throw a grenade, etc..
This is a work in progress, the current version still makes some obvious mistakes.
Further work needed:
- custom pathfinder that would use weights based on cover from threat (so paths could avoid going closer to the threat)
- attack and defense planning
- multiple threats
